Implantation bleeding Early on in pregnancy, about a week after conception, you can have implantation bleeding , where the embryo burrows into the lining of the uterus and causes light bleeding.
These are known as Braxton Hicks contractions and can be uncomfortable, but they're perfectly normal and there's no need for alarm.
